I find this pricing policy is a shame. Every update is sold as a new release, I bought the 7 and then the 8, skipped the 9 and now I'm offered the 10 with a "discount" on a full price that nobody knows. So I should buy it for the third time, which seems odd especially considering that some of the features are corrections of previous bugs. The developer writes "We had to decide between charging full price to all customers – or offering a discount to all customers." but choose to ignore the third option, which is to allow the existing costumer to update their product (which has been payed) for free, and let the new costumer buy it. Which is what all the other software developers do.

I have been using MacFamilyTree for a long time and have now created entries for over 600 people going back to the 16th century. MacFamilyTree records life events, media, additional notes and sources. Great fun are the many display options on maps, as virtual trees, different family trees, factual data sheets and much more. When my children had personal history as a topic at school, I was able to give them a three-generation printout with one click. I also like the possibility to indicate local and world historical events, such as wars, floods or famines, which make the hard life in old times very clear. If you are interested in family statistics on age, places, occupations or marriages, you will find answers here. A plausibility check gives one hints as to which data need to be checked again in the sources. With the export function, one can have a book output (which I have not done yet) or a website (which I update regularly and make available to my interested relatives on a protected web space). MacFamilyTree has been greatly expanded over the years and is a real treasure among my programmes.

I purchased a this app a few weeks ago. It's a little clunky and counter-intuitive, but I was able to figure out things pretty quickly. However, there are still some issues I just have not been able get a handle on. With most of these features, I figured I get to them later, so I concentrated on getting the content I have into the program. This approach lasted about week, until I went back to look up some of the content as a reference point for further content. Lo and behold, a large amount of information that I entered dutifully had just disappeared. The best I can figure out is that this app only maintains and saves the direct line of descendants, not brothers and sisters (of grandparents, etc.). So, I had met two of my great great aunts as a young kid. I had photos and stories from them. In fact, these two people were an early key to finding links to a multi-generational gold mine of information. However, MacFamilyTree saved nothing that I entered about them, nor any of their brothers and sisters, except for the one who was my great grandmother.
I'm floored and angry. I've wasted huge amounts of time and the money purchasing this piece of crap. I've tried contacting the developer's support team, but they haven't responded.
My advice... don't purchase this product. You'll be disappointed after a frustrating beginning with this counter-intuitive software. I want my money back! I bet they won't do it. And, I'd love to have them pay me for my wasted time.
I'm using Mac OS 10.15.7 Catalina.
